Learning at VEMSA

Why Choose VEMSA?

It’s difficult to train for emergency medicine because so much happens in the moment. It’s not only what you know, it’s how you react and flex as situations shift—and they are always shifting. VEMSA was born from a nationally recognized EMS service, Rescue Inc, and their 56 years of experience informs the content and context of all we teach here. At VEMSA, we’ve created the best possible real world training you’ll find in New England and beyond.

We Have It All

Ambulance Simulator

We’ve repurposed the back of an actual ambulance to give you the most realistic emergency situations you can have without being on a call. Instructors can set up nearly any situation—including changing vitals and reacting to medications—in our simulator. Students will learn what it’s really like on a call or experienced EMTs can replay a scenario that actually happened to see what they could have done differently.

Patient Simulators

VEMSA has a number of the most cutting edge patient simulators in the world. The HAL series of simulators will blink, talk, cry, and respond to you as well as medications and interventions that you provide. This is as close to the real thing without an actual emergency. We have simulators for adults and also pediatric patients.

Outdoor Rescue

VEMSA offers coursework in outdoor and high angle rescue as well as WFR (Wilderness First Responder) certification. Our outdoor emergency rescue faculty are the best at what they do, having put theory into practice throughout New England. Sometimes, just "calling an ambulance" isn't an option, so we have built an outdoor rescue training facility that is second to none.

Tech-loaded Classrooms

We have classrooms and break out spaces throughout VEMSA to meet any size group. Whether it’s a 30-person First Aid training or a 5-person group who are learning advanced techniques, our facility brings this work to life with spaces and facilities ready for anything. We also have lodging next door for those who don’t want to commute.

Clean Room

We have put aside a room that enables us to realistically simulate actual events with patients who have heavy bleeding or other life threatening situations. This room is built to get messy so that students can learn how to deal with the very real, and very hard, realities of this kind of work. Again, it’s not only about techniques, but learning how to stay calm and professional in real world circumstances.

Faculty Who “Do”

VEMSA has great faculty because they’re not just amazing instructors, but each of our faculty members is also a longtime practitioner of emergency medicine. Having experience in the field is invaluable when it comes to learning how to keep someone alive. Our faculty focus all they do on bringing your education to life.
